DISCOVERY MEETING / CANDIDATE INTERVIEW

“Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today. Before we dive in with our questions, let me give you a quick glimpse into who we are and what we’re about at Index.

Index is a collection of high-performing, specialist recruitment businesses, all brand leaders in their markets. Our mission is bold: to become the fastest-growing company in the world, which means, by definition we have to reject the norm and do it better.

This comes with huge upside, it means fast-track progression for those who deliver, the highest pay in Liverpool, and the chance to take your career global with opportunities to relocate to one of our US offices.

From what you’ve seen what makes index interesting to you?

When I originally applied I was particularly excited by some of the success stories. Mary went having a years experience in our Liverpool office to moving to our Orlando office where she’s now a manager earning over $250,000 a year, all within a couple of years. Joanna came in with no recruitment experience to becoming a Managing Director and a shareholder earning a similar amount in under 5 years. In our San Diego office Moises had a pay cheque of $80,000, last month! I could go on and talk about others.

Some people join us at entry level and become shareholders, but I also think its important to state that others don’t make it, the difference is simple: it’s them. This process is about working out whether we’d be the right fit for each other.”

High Risk Questions

“Before we get into the conversation, I want to make sure I cover a few non negotiables. These questions are really important in terms of making sure we are the right fit for you, and vice versa, so I’m going to jump straight in if that’s ok?”

  1. The office is based in Moorefields. Are you able to commute every day? How would you do that?
  2. Recruitment is no 9-5 job – a normal day involves getting in at 8am and often not leaving until after 8pm. Is that something you are comfortable doing?
  3. This is a sales role, therefore you will be required to cold call. This will be frequently throughout your day up to 200 times a day. Is this something you’re happy to do?
  4. Our starting salary is £25,000 not including commission and pay rises. What are salary expectations?

“Now we’ve covered our non-negotiables, let’s get into learning more about you. As I’ve mentioned, we are exclusively looking for high achieving, top talent to join our mission. We are a team of A* players that sit within the top 1% and want to expand our group of like-minded individuals.”

  1. What’s something specific where you rank in the top 1% that you can physically document, it can be a sport or an interest but it has to be tangible.

Learning about the Candidate

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Talk to me about your hobbies, interests, and anything you’re particularly passionate about.
  3. What have you been doing since you graduated?
  4. Why are you looking to leave your current role?
  5. How has your job search been so far? What processes are you in?
  6. Why are you looking to get into recruitment?

Creative thinking:

“At this stage, we want to get a sense of how you approach complex problems, make assumptions, and think creatively. These questions don’t have a single ‘right’ answer—what matters is how you break down the problem, your reasoning process behind it?”

NOTE TO RECRUITER, THE ANSWER IS LESS RELEVANT, ITS ABOUT THE CANDIDATES ABILITY TO CONVERSE WHILST DISCUSSING A SUBJECT MATTER THAT IS UNFAMILIAR TO THEM

  1. How many times a day do the hands of a clock overlap?

(This is minute and hour hands only)

  1. How many footballs would fit inside the Birkenhead Tunnel?

(the Birkenhead tunnel is 2 miles long and a football is 22cm across)

Motivations and Goals

  1. What motivates you? Where do you think that comes from?
  2. What are your short-term and long-term goals? What actions have you taken to work toward them, and why do these goals matter to you?
  3. How do you see your career evolving in the future? Why is that so important to you?

Closing

      21. How have you found the call?

      22. Do you have any questions?

Our process is quite different to other businesses, this is because we don’t want to conform, we want to do it better. This process concludes in 5 days and includes a few tests, 1 video call, a call with our CEO and 2 face to face interviews. This gives you a huge opportunity to showcase yourself as an A* player.

We understand it’s a lot, and it’s fast paced, but it stages how we conduct ourselves as a business from the get go. We are offering a lot, so we want to make sure we are expanding our team to more top talent pool individuals.

Are you able to commit to this timeline?

The next step will be to complete our tests. These are a personality, intelligence and recruitment test. It’s something we ask everyone to complete to ensure we are the right business for you. I will need these done within the next hour.
